How to make a claim

To ensure your insurer pays your claim, you must act according to the following:

Do not admit liability

  • DO NOT admit responsibility or liability. Refrain from making a promise or offer of payment in regard to any claim.
  • DO NOT offer or agree to settle any claim without your insurer’s written consent.

In the event that a claim is for legal liability, you may make a written request for us to agree that you are protected in respect of the claim.

Prevent further damage

You must take all reasonable precautions to mitigate any further loss, damage or liability.

Contact the police

In accordance with the legislation of the state or territory in which the accident or damage occurs, you must:

  • Contact the police if any person was injured as a result of an accident.
  • Request police presence at the scene of the accident. It is important that you contact the police immediately if your vehicle has been stolen or maliciously damaged.

Contact us as soon as possible

If there is an accident occasioning in loss, damage or liability that appears to result in a claim, it is important that you give immediate notice along with the full details of any loss, damage and/or anticipated or alleged liability.

Along with notification of an incident, any correspondence that is received in regards to the incident must be forwarded on to us immediately. This may include but is not exclusive to:

  • Any notice of impending prosecution
  • Details of any inquest or official enquiry
